Durga Khote Life Story: There are ups and downs in everyone’s life and we don’t know what is going to happen in the future. Every person has his own story but some stories shake the heart. Such was the story of Durga Khote who worked in many superhit films of Marathi and Hindi cinema and was very popular in that era.

Durga Khote’s journey has been full of struggle in which she got success but before that she also faced a lot of pain. First the death of her husband at a young age, then the death of her son left Durga Khote devastated but she did not lose courage and then achieved success.

The painful story of Durga Khote

Durga Khote was born on 14 January 1905 in a Marathi Brahmin family. Her childhood name was Vita Lad whose father was Pandurang Shamrao Lad and mother Manjubai. Durga Khote belonged to a good and financially strong family. At a time when women were not allowed to leave the house, Durga Khote graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. Durga Khote got married at the age of 17 but when she reached the age of 26, her husband died.

Durga Khote was happy in her married life but her happiness was short lived and she lived alone after that. In 10 years of marriage, Durga Khote had two sons, Bakul and Hakin Khote. Both the sons were well settled but Harin passed away when he was in his 40s. Durga Khote passed away on 22 September 1991 at the age of 86.

After her husband’s death, Durga Khote started teaching tuitions to children to run the house. Durga Khote was the best English speaking woman of that era. In the year 1931, Durga Khote played a minor role in the silent film Farebi Jaal but later she made her debut in the film Machindra (1932). Before coming into films, Durga Khote also did theatres. Including Marathi and Hindi films, she did about 200 films in her 50-year film career.

If we talk only about Hindi films, Durga Khote did superhit films like ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, ‘Amar Jyoti’, ‘Bidaai’, ‘Bharat Milap’, ‘Humlog’, ‘Bawarchi’, ‘Jeene Ki Raah’, ‘Mirza Ghalib’, ‘Ek Phool Do Mali’, ‘Door Ki Awaaz’, ‘Bobby’, ‘Khilona’, ‘Khushboo’ and ‘Karz’.
